Methodology

Score model version 1. Every score is clamped to 0–100 and rounded to the nearest integer. Missing numbers use a neutral midpoint so a blank field neither wins nor fails the product. Nothing on this page is a crash test, an NHTSA star, or a fit guarantee.

Stroller portability

Weight is mapped from 12 lb = 100 to 34 lb = 15. Folded volume (length × width × height) is mapped from 1200 cubic inches = 100 to 14000 cubic inches = 20. Portability is 0.62 × weight score + 0.38 × volume score, plus 8 if a one-hand fold is listed and 6 if the maker claims a cabin-sized fold. The cabin claim is not an airline approval.

Stroller comfort and features

Comfort is 0.34 × recline + 0.28 × suspension + 0.22 × seat-room. A full-flat recline scores 100 on the recline piece. Otherwise recline maps 1 position = 35 to 4 positions = 80. Suspension is 25 for none, 62 for partial, and 100 for all-wheel. Seat room maps a 35 lb child-weight limit to 40 and a 75 lb limit to 100. Reversible seat adds 6. Adjustable handlebar adds 4. Basket adds 6 / 3 / 0 for large / medium / small.

Features are points, then capped at 100: car-seat compatibility 16, included bassinet 14 or accepted bassinet 6, parent-facing 10, travel system 8, handlebar 6, reversible 6, large basket 8 or medium 4, all-wheel suspension 10 or partial 5, one-hand fold 8, jogging type 6, double or single-to-double 8.

Car seat ease, fit, and stated range

Day-to-day ease starts at 28. No-rethread harness adds 22. Rotating adds 16. Rigid lower anchors add 10. A load leg adds 8. Four or more recline positions add 6; two or three add 3. Infant carriers also get a weight bonus mapped from 7 lb = 18 to 18 lb = 0. This is not NHTSA’s ease-of-use rating. Foldbench links to NHTSA and does not copy those stars.

Small-car fit is 0.7 × width score + 0.3 × depth score. Width maps 16.5 inches = 100 to 22 inches = 20, so narrower shells score higher. Missing depth uses 55. A higher fit score is not a promise the seat fits your car.

Stated range is the gap from the lowest listed minimum weight to the highest listed maximum weight, divided by 110 lb, times 100. A longer manufacturer range is not a safety claim. FAA approval is not scored, because this dataset does not record it.

Car-seat comfort, the shopping kind, uses recline steps (1 = 40, 2 = 58, 3 = 72, 4 or more = 86) plus 8 for an adjustable headrest, 6 for an infant insert, and 4 for a machine-washable cover.

Value

Stroller spec blend is 0.25 × portability + 0.4 × comfort + 0.35 × features. Car-seat spec blend is 0.3 × ease + 0.25 × fit + 0.25 × stated range + 0.2 × comfort.

Value = spec blend × (type median price ÷ this price) ^ 0.65. The median is the median lowest price inside the same type (travel, jogging, infant, convertible, and so on). A product priced under its type median scores above its spec blend. The result is clamped at 100, so several inexpensive products can tie. Ties break toward the lower price, then the name. Sample prices move this list. Live prices replace them when a provider is connected.

What we refuse to score

Foldbench does not publish a “safest” list, a crash score, or an AggregateRating in structured data. Offer prices appear in schema.org markup only after a live provider marks them live. Recall text is quoted from NHTSA’s public file and only attached when the make and model phrase match as whole words.
